Zodiac Signs for Dogs & Cats: What do the Stars Say About Your Pet?
By : Kathleen Crampton | Published Jun 19, 2025

Have you ever wondered why your pet has those goofy 2 a.m. antics, seems to be constantly deep in thought, or always wants to be by your side at all times? The answer may just be in the stars! Many people believe that our horoscopes hold the secrets for why we act certain ways or what things happen to us in life, so why not have some fun and explore the world of astrology for pets?
Learn your cat or dog’s zodiac sign, and it may help illuminate why they behave the way they do. Plus, learning more about pet zodiac signs may help you feel more connected with your furry companion and see how the stars aligned to bring you together. While you’re having fun with this though, remember that your veterinarian is still going to be the best source of truth on your pet. If you have any questions about your pet’s health or have noticed that something is off about them, schedule an appointment with their veterinarian instead of looking for answers in the stars.
Zodiac signs for dogs and cats
Get to know your four-legged friend even better by checking out their zodiac sign and the personality said to come with it. To find your pal’s horoscope, just look for either their astrological sign (if already known) or their date of birth. And, hey, if you’re like many pet parents who don’t know their pet’s actual birthday, just look for the description that fits your pal’s personality best!
Aquarius (January 20–February 18)
Aquarius pets live life to the beat of their own drum. If this pet zodiac sign applies to your dog or cat, you’ve likely noticed that they’re firmly independent and not afraid to be themselves. For example, you might find your pup doing their own thing at the dog park instead of socializing. Aquarius dogs and cats want to feel part of a social unit, but would rather wait until they find an equally minded tribe before going all in.
Furry members of the Aquarius zodiac sign will always vocalize the causes they believe in, like whining for early morning walks or meowing until they get an open-door invitation to snuggle up in bed at night. But in between their more energetic moments, these pets will often find a quiet place to relax and rejuvenate, building up their energy for the next issue to bring to your attention.
Pisces (February 19–March 20)
While several of the zodiac signs for pets are sensitive and empathetic, Pisces dogs and cats are more so. Pisces pets are devoted loyalists. They seek deep connections with their family members, and once those bonds are formed, they’re incredibly intuitive. When Pisces pets sense that you need comfort, they’ll do their best to provide that emotional support through physical touch, whether it's booping you with their nose or curling up in your lap.
You’ll likely find these furry pals getting along well with others, giving affection gently and generously. But this attention goes both ways. Your Pisces dog or cat wants routine, consistent affection in return.
Aries (March 21–April 19)
Aries pets are like little hurricanes, swirling with intense energy and passion. All of that strength and vitality can make them a bit aggressive and intense in their affection at times, so it’s crucial to curb unwanted behaviors, like puppy biting, early on. Pet parents should give them ample opportunities to expel all their pent-up energy through mentally stimulating toys, socializing with other animals, and exercise.
Although Aries dogs and cats can be fiercely ambitious and competitive, they also crave love and patience as they navigate daily life, so positive reinforcement from pet parents is crucial.
Taurus (April 20–May 20)
This cat and dog zodiac sign is the pillar of stability and routine. Sudden changes, like moving houses or a shift in their daily schedule, can be shocking to a Taurus pet. They’re creatures of comfort.
While these four-legged pals may be initially timid, they’re always gentle. It might take a little time to build trust, as they need to get comfortable in their environments and with new people, but once they deem their family and surroundings safe, they’ll be loyal for life. At that point, don’t be surprised if they become your right-hand dog or cat, nuzzling up to you whenever they get the chance.
Gemini (May 21–June 20)
A combination of two extremes, Gemini pets can be playful and goofy in one moment and suddenly serious in the next. This flightiness means that they’re always on the move, driven by their curiosity. Providing them with different forms of entertainment can keep Geminis from getting bored — and can channel their penchant for mischief away from investigating those snacks on the counter or seeing what would happen if they tore your pillows apart.
Cancer (June 21–July 22)
Even when they might appear to easily adapt to new situations or people, Cancer cats and dogs are likely nervous and anxious on the inside. They’re natural caretakers of their favorite humans, even when it means sacrificing their comforts.
To quell pet anxiety in your Cancer dog or cat, always give them ample love, affection, and predictability in new environments, like setting up their favorite toys immediately in a new home or showing them where their “safe space” is. Once they have that sense of calm, they’ll be content, showing affection and fierce loyalty to their family members.
Leo (July 23–August 22)
Leos are known for being the biggest personality in the room. They’re bold and extremely energetic, taking every opportunity they can to shine in the spotlight. These little socialites exude confidence, drama, and dominance, often seeing themselves as the head of your household.
Of all the dog and cat zodiac signs, Leos are probably the most fearless and dedicated. They’ll make that crazy-high jump or eat the mystery food on the ground, always keeping their goal in mind — and keeping their pet parents on their toes.
Virgo (August 23–September 22)
Virgo dogs and cats are creatures of habit. They need everything in its right place and definitely no changes to the schedule. You might find that they only like one type of food, cannot stand when their bed is moved, and require punctual meal times.
With this level of particularity, you might think that Virgos would be a bit cold and aloof. But that’s far from the truth. These furry family members are nurturers at their core, but they just need a little time to feel safe and protected before expressing their love and affection.
Libra (September 23–October 22)
Cats and dogs that identify as Libra are the people-pleasers of the pet horoscope. They just want to maintain a sense of calm and keep their humans happy. Always in search of harmony, Libra pets naturally hate chaos and conflict. They might cower or start whimpering when they hear loud noises like vacuums, thunder, or sirens, seeking the protection of the closest blanket or their favorite human.
While they might seem self-sufficient and poised on the outside, Libras might be a little unsure about things, so validating good behaviors and providing ample cuddling opportunities are key to helping these fur balls feel safe and secure.
Scorpio (October 23–November 21)
Known as the intense, passionate pet zodiac sign, Scorpios are the type to look as though their eyes are reaching the depths of your soul. They’re quite comfortable with discomfort, using quiet moments to conduct their assessments of their pet parents and other furry family members.
This mysteriousness and fearlessness is magnetic, making Scorpios natural leaders of the pack. They seek deep bonds with their family, but they determine the timeline to reach this level of connection. Once that bond is solidified, they’ll be attached for life.
Sagittarius (November 22–December 21)
Wanderers and free spirits, Sagittarius pets are small but mighty explorers. Traipsing through a home or yard full of nooks and crannies is a day well spent for a Sagittarius. They want to be the captain of their own life and aren’t afraid to vocalize their needs. If they need a belly rub, they’ll let you know with a confident woof or meow.
Their adaptability and enthusiasm for new experiences makes Sagittarius fur babies the ultimate travel partners. At times, though, it might seem like they’re uninterested in cozying up to family members, but that’s only because they value their independence. When they’re done exploring, these Sagittarius cats and dogs are quite generous with their time and affection.
Capricorn (December 22–January 19)
Even as puppies or kittens, Capricorns seem to have adult qualities, displaying wisdom and behavior beyond their years. They’re independent and highly intelligent, taking every training activity or intellectual challenge as an opportunity to perfect their skills.
This seriousness can make Capricorn cats and dogs seem standoffish, as they tend to keep their guard up. So, consistency and structure is key when developing a bond with this zodiac sign. Give them enough time to realize that you’re not going anywhere, and they’ll start showing affection. You’ll soon have a loyal and fierce guardian at your feet.
