How are premiums determined for pets with unknown ages?

We know it’s not always possible to know a pet’s age, especially if they are a rescue. But as you may already know, we base our pricing on age (among other factors) — how can we do this with knowing exactly how old a particular dog or cat is?

If you haven’t done so already, it’s important to schedule a veterinary appointment for your new pet. Your veterinarian will be able to evaluate your pal and give their best estimate for how old they are. In addition to getting a day to celebrate your pet’s birthday, you’ll be able to use this medical report for getting coverage with Trupanion. Our pricing is determined based on the attending veterinarian’s best estimate of your pet’s age (as recorded in their medical history).
