If your veterinary hospital is among the many that accept Trupanion VetDirect Pay™, all you need to do is tell your hospital that you have Trupanion coverage, and they’ll be able to submit your invoice right then and there, with processing and payment often taking just seconds.
Going to a hospital not set up for VetDirect Pay™? No problem! You can also file online through your account or submit manually by downloading a claim form. Learn more about filing claims with Trupanion.
You can download a claim form online, or you can contact one of our pet-loving Customer Care Representatives at 888.733.2685 and we will mail, email, or fax one to you.
Not at all. While we encourage submitting sooner so you can be reimbursed faster (over 70% of claims are paid within 24 hours!) you have up to 12 months from the date of service. If life gets in the way, an invoice ends up at the bottom of the pile, or you simply forget, your coverage is still there waiting.
You have a full 12 months from the date of service to submit your claim to Trupanion. That’s one of the most generous windows in pet insurance as most competitors give you 90 to 180 days. The 12-month window applies to invoices you submit yourself as VetDirect Pay™ claims are already settled at checkout.
Most pet insurance providers cap their claim submission window at 90 to 180 days, meaning a late invoice could mean no reimbursement. Trupanion’s policy allows submissions for up to 12 months following the date of service which gives you more breathing room when you’re juggling a sick pet, a hectic schedule, or waiting on records from your vet.
We will send you a check in the mail. You also have the option to receive your claims payment directly into a checking or savings account via direct deposit. You can set this up by calling 888.733.2685.

Whether you have cat insurance or dog insurance coverage, there are many different ways to pay for your Trupanion membership costs. You can pay by debit card, credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or American Express) or set up monthly bank account withdrawals and your premium will automatically be charged each month.
