Not all pet insurance coverage is equal

Not all pet insurance companies offer coverage for all unexpected injuries and illnesses. A lot of them have generally broad coverage, but there are big exclusions and limits to what they will cover. Sure, your policy may be a few dollars cheaper each month, but will it give your pet the best protection?

Does pet insurance cover routine wellness care?

Routine and general wellness care costs are not included in Trupanion coverage. And by “routine” and “wellness,” we mean things like regular veterinary check-ups and preventative care like flea and tick control. That’s because we don't feel that you should be charged extra for things you can expect and budget for. Many veterinarians offer a robust in-house wellness plan that is far more comprehensive than the pet insurance companies who do offer wellness options (and who then often don’t cover as much in their main plans due to providing this extra coverage). We highly recommend talking with your veterinarian about your options if you are interested in wellness coverage.

At Trupanion, we’re all about helping you handle unexpected veterinary costs for your pet as they arise. Without a good pet insurance policy, pet parents can swiftly find themselves having to choose between their pet’s health and staying afloat financially. Things like accidents and surprise illnesses can quickly become costly and exceed what you’ve budgeted for your pet’s healthcare. But with Trupanion at your side, you can say “yes” to the care your pet needs.
