Why is routine care not covered?

You may have seen by this point that we do not cover routine care at Trupanion. Rest assured, there is a specific reason for this. 

Routine wellness care, such as regular vet check-ups, vaccines, and preventive medications (like flea and trick control) are all things that can be expected throughout the lifetime of a pet. Because these costs can be planned and budgeted for, they are not included in coverage. After all, pet insurance exists for helping with unexpected veterinary costs, such as an injury or illness.
