What happens if a Trupanion-insured pet changes owners?

We understand that life is unpredictable, and dogs and cats sometimes need to go to new humans. In order to make sure Trupanion-insured pets don’t have to miss out on getting the best veterinary care, we make it as simple as possible to transfer existing policies to new owners. 

If you are the existing pet owner on the account and want the change, you can give us a call to transfer the policy to the new owner. To complete the process, we’ll need to speak with the new pet owner as well to verify the transfer (and update the account and billing information). If you are the new pet parent and are aware of an existing Trupanion policy for your pet, we’ll likewise need to confirm the transfer with both you and the former owner.
